The Winter Solstice of 2020 marked the 30th anniversary of the death of the poet Martin Johnston (12 Nov 1947 - 21 Jun 1990). This website commemorates his life and work.

In the Poetry section you can listen to Martin reading The Blood Aquarium, Letter to Sylvia Plath, Mazurka for Buzzing Fly, Gradus Ad Parnassum, The Sea-Cucumber and Spinoza. Prose includes reviews and other prose pieces by Martin. In Reviews & Interviews you will find critiques of Martin’s work as well as transcripts of interviews with Martin. Beautiful Objects  

This new anthology of Martin Johnston’s poetry is on sale from its publisher, Ligature.

It includes his two previously published volumes, some of his early poems and Greek translations, and the work he produced in the period before his death. Beautiful Objects shows the range of Martin Johnston's voice, the clarity of his perception, and the breadth of his passions.

Beautiful Objects, was launched by Lex Marinos at an online event at which a number of Martin's fellow-poets read a selection of his work. To watch a recording of the event visit our News page.
